Academic internship in Altos de Campana strengthens learning about biodiversity and environmental conservation

As part of their academic training and UMECIT's commitment to experiential learning, students participated in a field trip to Altos de Campana National Park and Biological Reserve, located in the district of Capira, Panama Oeste province. This activity allowed them to complement the knowledge acquired in the classroom through direct contact with one of Panama's most representative and ecologically valuable ecosystems.

During the day, the students participated in guided tours led by park rangers and teachers, who shared their knowledge about the protected area's biodiversity, its ecological importance, and the conservation efforts underway to preserve this natural heritage. Throughout the tour, the participants identified various species of flora and fauna, analyzed ecosystem dynamics, and understood the fundamental role that protected areas play in environmental balance and the well-being of local communities.

The experience also allowed participants to observe firsthand the biological processes that sustain life, reflect on the interaction between organisms and their environment, and recognize how nature inspires the development of sustainable and innovative technological solutions to face the environmental challenges of the present and the future.

In addition to strengthening scientific knowledge, the practice promoted the development of skills such as observation, research and critical analysis, encouraging a comprehensive vision of the conservation of natural resources and the responsibility of each citizen in protecting the environment.

With this type of initiative, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment to its core functions of teaching, research and outreach, integrating theory with practice to train professionals with environmental awareness, social responsibility and a solid understanding of the importance of preserving biodiversity as a basis for sustainable development.

The university continues to promote academic experiences that inspire its students to value Panama's natural wealth and become agents of change committed to protecting ecological heritage and the well-being of future generations.
