UMECIT Reading Club promotes educational experience in the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament

As part of the initiatives aimed at strengthening the comprehensive education of students, the UMECIT Reading Club, on May 27, carried out a guided tour of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO), providing the participants with an enriching academic and cultural experience in one of the most relevant spaces for regional integration.

The activity was conceived as an opportunity to expand learning scenarios beyond the classroom, promoting students' engagement with institutions that safeguard the historical memory, knowledge, and documentary heritage of Latin America and the Caribbean.

During the tour, participants learned about the history of PARLATINO, its mission as a regional integration body, and its contribution to strengthening dialogue, cooperation, and democracy among Latin American and Caribbean countries. They also explored various emblematic spaces within the institution, gaining a deeper understanding of its importance for the political, social, and cultural development of the region.

One of the most significant moments of the day was the visit to the King Mohammed VI Library, Documentation Center, and Central Archive of Morocco, considered one of the most representative areas of the campus due to its wealth of documents, architectural value, and contribution to access to specialized knowledge. This space allowed the students to reflect on the relevance of documentary sources in research processes and knowledge generation.

The experience also included a tour of the Chinese Hall, a cultural space dedicated to promoting the history, traditions, and cultural expressions of the People's Republic of China. This visit strengthened the understanding of cultural diversity and highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange between different nations and cultures.

Beyond its institutional component, the activity fostered reflection on the fundamental role that libraries, documentation centers, and historical preservation sites play in knowledge building, independent learning, and academic development. It also highlighted the importance of preserving documentary heritage as essential for the social and cultural growth of communities.

This initiative demonstrates the positive impact of the collaborative work between the Library and University Welfare to generate complementary educational experiences that strengthen critical thinking, research, the habit of reading and the appreciation of cultural diversity, aspects aligned with the educational model of UMECIT.

Through activities like this, the University reaffirms its commitment to a comprehensive academic education, promoting learning spaces that connect students with real-world knowledge scenarios and allow them to broaden their understanding of the regional and international context, thus strengthening their personal and professional development.
