The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT) officially delivered the report “Connecting Education and Employment 2026: Talent, Opportunity and Science” to the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI), consolidating an important effort to coordinate between academia, the productive sector and the State to strengthen higher education and employability in Panama.
The document was delivered by the Vice-Rector for Administration of UMECIT, Dr. María Piedad Nieto, who officially delivered the report to Deputy Minister in charge of Trade and Industries, Mr. Tulio Ramírez, in an act that reaffirms the commitment of both institutions to the development of policies and strategies aimed at strengthening human talent and the country's competitiveness.
During the event, the main findings and results obtained from the participatory process, which brought together companies, public institutions, teachers, students, graduates, and entrepreneurs, were presented. Among the report's key contributions are recommendations on labor market trends, future skills, curriculum updates, applied research, innovation, and strengthening the link between universities and the productive sector.
The report is a strategic tool for higher education institutions, the business sector, and public entities, providing information that will help guide decision-making, promote new partnerships, and strengthen human talent development in response to current and future labor market needs.
With this delivery, UMECIT and the Ministry of Commerce and Industries reaffirm their commitment to continue promoting joint initiatives that foster sustainable development, innovation, and the building of a more competitive, inclusive Panama prepared for the challenges of the future.
