As part of the learning experiences that contribute to strengthening professional training, students of the Bachelor's Degree in Banking and Finance from UMECIT, La Chorrera campus, participated last week in an enriching academic tour to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the Superintendency of Banks of Panama.

The activity, led by Professor Rosybel Gaona Quiroz, allowed students to connect the knowledge they had developed in the Public Finance and Fiscal Policy course with the realities of the national financial system. During the session, topics of great relevance to their education were addressed, including the state budget, public debt, public spending, budget management, and the supervision of the banking system.

During the tour of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the students visited the facilities of DIPRENA (National Budget Directorate), where they participated in a discussion with Ms. Ana Matilde Amado, Deputy Secretary General of the Senior Office, and Ms. Esilda Atencio, Deputy Director of Public Policies.

In this space, students had the opportunity to ask previously prepared questions and learn, from the experience of professionals in the field, different aspects related to the management of public finances and the policies that affect the national economy.

Later, the delegation visited the Superintendency of Banks of Panama, where they were received by Ms. Yamileth Ortiz of the Public Relations Department. As part of the visit, the students participated in a lecture by Mr. Bienvenido Garcés Carbajal, Manager of Supervision at the Directorate of Financial Conglomerates, who shared experiences and knowledge related to the banking sector, as well as providing motivational messages to the future banking and finance professionals.

This academic tour reaffirms UMECIT's commitment to an education connected with professional reality, promoting experiences that allow students to transfer the knowledge acquired in the classroom to real contexts in their field of study.

Likewise, the activity contributes to strengthening the substantive functions of teaching, research, extension and management, by generating spaces for direct interaction with institutions linked to the economic and financial sphere of the country.

For the students, this experience represented an opportunity to expand their knowledge, clarify concerns, and directly understand the role played by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the Superintendency of Banks of Panama in the national economy and financial system.
