The research reaches communities to strengthen health and environmental care

The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT-, Chitré campus, successfully completed the data collection instrument application phase of the research project "Impact of environmental and health education on mosquito control Aedes aegypti in the district of La Arena," a study aimed at generating solutions with a direct impact on public health and community well-being.

The fieldwork sessions were led and supervised by research professor Karen Botello, who accompanied the students during the data collection process in 366 households in the La Arena district of Herrera province. The active participation of the community was fundamental to the development of this stage, which is one of the most important moments of the research project.

The study integrates environmental education with public health indicators, allowing for the analysis of environmental conditions and factors that influence mosquito prevention and control. Aedes aegypti, a transmitter of diseases such as dengue, Zika and chikungunya.

The information gathered will serve as a basis for developing a diagnosis of the local situation and proposing sustainable and replicable strategies that contribute to strengthening prevention actions from an educational and community perspective.

With initiatives like this, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment to research with territorial impact, which transcends the academic sphere to generate useful knowledge, strengthen citizen participation and contribute solutions to the challenges faced by communities in the Azuero region and the country.
