The Santiago branch of UMECIT held the meeting on April 29th “Connecting Education and Employment: Talent, Opportunity and Science”, an initiative that brought together more than 50 participants including teachers, students, graduates, representatives of the private sector and State entities.
The event established itself as a space for dialogue, reflection, and collective construction around one of the main current challenges: the effective articulation between academic training and the dynamics of the labor market in the Veraguas region.
The event included the participation of Eng. Erick Jaén, mayor of the district of Santiago, and Lic. Hernando Alfonso Santacoloma, provincial director of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI), who highlighted the importance of these spaces for the economic and social development of the territory.
As part of the academic agenda, a keynote address was given by Mrs. Fulvia de Vargas, president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Agriculture and Livestock of Veraguas, who addressed the relationship between the productive sector and the training of human talent, highlighting the current challenges in terms of employability in the region.
Subsequently, the participants joined multidisciplinary working groups, where contributions were generated around strategic axes such as employment trends in the region, relevant curricular adjustments, key skills for employability, innovation in university-business articulation and strategies to strengthen labor market insertion and local entrepreneurship.
This dynamic allowed for an enriching exchange of experiences and perspectives, aimed at the growth of the province and the strengthening of its regional development.
With this activity, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment to linking academia, the productive sector and the State, promoting a more relevant, equitable education aligned with the needs of the environment.
