With a large turnout, UMECIT Chitré branch held the meeting on April 30, 2026 “Connecting Education and Employment: Talent, Opportunity and Science”, consolidating itself as a key space for the articulation between academia, the productive sector and the State.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI), with the objective of generating strategic inputs that strengthen university education and contribute to the design of public policies aimed at promoting competitiveness, innovation and the development of human talent in the country.
During the day, Dr. René Quevedo, employment analyst, presented an analysis of the labor reality from a critical perspective, supported by data and experience, addressing the structural challenges of the labor market both at the national level and in the Azuero region.
Subsequently, multidisciplinary working groups were held with the participation of representatives from the business sector, public institutions, non-governmental organizations, and academia, generating synergies and significant contributions. These forums allowed for the identification of key competencies in higher education, aligned with the needs of the regional labor market, and provided relevant input for decision-making.
UMECIT thanks all participants for their valuable contribution, reaffirming its commitment to building a relevant, innovative education linked to the development of the country.
