As part of the commemoration of Panamanian Lawyer's Day, students and teachers from the Bachelor's degrees in Law and Political Science and Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences from the Chitré and Santiago campuses participated in an enriching International Tour to San José, Costa Rica, which included a visit to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the Embassy of Panama.
This academic experience was developed using a participatory, hands-on methodology focused on experiential learning and strengthening students' professional skills. The visit provided an opportunity to learn firsthand about the work of organizations involved in promoting, protecting, and defending human rights in the region.
The approach to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights represented an opportunity to expand the knowledge acquired in the classroom and to understand, from a practical and international perspective, the mechanisms and challenges related to the protection of fundamental rights.
Likewise, the visit to the Embassy of Panama in Costa Rica allowed the students to strengthen their connection with the country's diplomatic representation and broaden their vision of professional practice in international settings.
The tour constitutes a significant experience within the comprehensive training process of future legal and forensic science professionals, by promoting analysis, participation and the exchange of knowledge beyond the academic environment.
At UMECIT, we reaffirm our commitment to an education that transcends borders, promoting internationalization, global citizenship, and the training of professionals committed to defending Human Rights and to the challenges of an increasingly interconnected world.
