Constitutional literacy strengthens the civic education of UMECIT students in La Chorrera
UMECIT, La Chorrera campus, was the setting for a constitutional literacy day aimed at Psychology students, as part of an initiative promoted by the Presidential Secretariat for the Reorganization of the State and Constitutional Affairs (SEPRESAC).
During the day, dynamic learning spaces were promoted, including case studies, simulations of citizen participation, and debates on the country's main constitutional challenges. These methodologies fostered critical thinking, active participation, and social commitment among the students.
Furthermore, the initiative incorporated a multidisciplinary approach, integrating perspectives from Psychology, Social Work and Preschool Education, which allowed for reflection on the impact of a new Constitution on social welfare, equity and human development.
As a result, this experience not only strengthened the participants' civic knowledge, but also encouraged their interest in becoming agents of change, reaffirming the role of higher education as an engine of social transformation and citizenship building in Panama.
The activity was organized by our University in coordination with SEPRESAC and with the support of the Academic Coordination of the Psychology, Social Work and Preschool programs, thus strengthening inter-institutional work in favor of the comprehensive training of students.
