Academic update strengthens skills in Criminal Law and Forensic Sciences

With the purpose of strengthening the comprehensive training of future professionals in the forensic field, students of the Bachelor's Degree in Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences at UMECIT participated in an academic update day on topics of Criminal Law, Procedural Law and forensic practices, developed with the participation of specialists from the judicial and scientific sector of the country.

The activity allowed students to expand their knowledge of fundamental aspects for professional practice, considering the constant regulatory changes and the growing demand for highly trained specialists in the field of criminal investigation and forensic sciences.

During the session, topics of great relevance to professional practice were addressed, including:

  • The Appeal and Nullity Appeal, presented by Magistrate Flor María González Miranda, of the Court of Appeal of Herrera.
  • Medical Legal Clinic Report on Forensic Practices, developed by Dr. Álvaro Duarte, forensic doctor of the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (IMELCF) of the province of Veraguas.
  • Procedures to protect, observe and graphically, in writing and photographically record the scene of the events, presentation by Gabriel Caco, a Field Criminalistics expert from IMELCF in Herrera and a graduate of UMECIT.
  • The identification of people related to the commission of crimes, presented by José Barba, a licensed expert in Forensic Morphology from IMELCF and a graduate of UMECIT.
  • Comparison and identification of papillary and plantar traces for criminal and civil purposes, topic developed by Moisés Urane, specialist of the Criminal and Civil Identification Section of the IMELCF and graduate of the university.

In addition to strengthening the technical and legal skills of the students, this initiative contributed to the social projection of UMECIT through university extension and the link with institutions of the governmental, judicial and forensic sector, promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences between professionals and future specialists.

Through these activities, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment to quality academic training, based on practical learning and the consolidation of strategic alliances that strengthen the professional preparation of its students and their contribution to the country's justice system.
