Yelitza González, Director of Extension of UMECIT, was invited as a speaker at the Multidisciplinary Workshop on Social Work III, held at the University of Panama. The main objective of this academic event was to critically analyze how gender inequality has affected economic models, a determining reality in the study of the phenomena that explain the economic, political and social behaviors of the population.
During her speech, González highlighted that gender inequalities have a significant impact on economic models, affecting both economic growth and the distribution of wealth. Low participation of women in the labor force reduces the potential for economic growth. According to the IMF, gender equality in employment could increase the GDP per capita of some countries by more than 30%.
In addition, she emphasized the importance of investing in the education and training of women to significantly increase labor productivity. González stressed that gender inequalities are not only unfair from a social and ethical point of view, but also have significant economic consequences. Promoting state policies that reduce these inequalities is crucial to boosting economic growth, improving the distribution of wealth and creating more equitable and sustainable societies.
Yelitza González's participation in this workshop reinforces UMECIT's commitment to promoting gender equality and critical analysis of current economic and social challenges. This event not only provided a platform for knowledge exchange but also fostered dialogue on the policies needed to address gender inequalities in our society.
