Umecit – University in Panama

Meeting at the IBI to advance with the Awareness of Reaccreditation

Committed to the process of institutional self-assessment on the way to 2022 reaccreditation, collaborators from the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology, UMECIT, headed by the rector, José Alberto Nieto Rojas, met once again on February 16, 2022, to advance in the awareness and training processes on the methodological models used in the collection of evidence that will be delivered to CONEAUPA, in the month of August.

For the rector, teamwork is fundamental and he pointed out that the collaborators are not alone in this process, since they will have highly experienced and trained professionals with global visions of accreditation, advising each of the areas.

“We have our own characteristics and it is the added value that UMECIT has, which differentiates us from the others and that added value is what we have to show, we are unique, inclusive”, pointed out the principal.

Likewise, in an auditorium with more than 100 face-to-face collaborators and 80 virtual ones, he encouraged the preparation of clear, well-supported reports, with means of verification, not only to meet requirements but to capture what UMECIT is and show the strength that has been achieved through throughout these 17 years,

"The validation that is made of the evidence of a department will be presented to a group and the same colleagues, who are in other strategic places, can validate, advise, project and recommend improvements" he claimed.

Among many of the University's strengths, the rector spoke of the importance of the library's databases, which are not only robust but also advanced and modern, constituting a valuable resource for students, who prefer to have their own bibliographic resources. within reach of a cell phone.

“We are a modern University that wants to train relevant professionals for the 21st century, a University that does not stay in one region, but rather brings education to the most remote places, not only in Panama but also in Colombia and other countries. We are going to demonstrate in the accreditation that the UMECIT training has led its students to transform their lives as professionals” added the principal. Nieto Rojas closed his intervention by stating:
"We are going to achieve national and international alliances to consolidate this University without borders that we so long for."
For her part, the General Vice Chancellor, Claudia Marcela Rueda Ossa, urged each of the collaborators to become aware of their responsibility in this process and pointed out: “Since September 6, when the accreditation awareness process began, we have wanted to strengthen this awareness of what achieving reaccreditation represents for the institution and it is not only for the University but for each of the people who make up this House of Studies, because reaccreditation changes the lives of students, teachers and collaborators by being part of an accredited institution”.

Within the framework of the meeting, workshops were also held with the different teams and contests that showed that all UMECIT collaborators have the shirt on their way to 2022 reaccreditation.
