Sustainable tourism is learned in the field: academic tour strengthens professional training

The Bajura Coffee Route, located in the township of Cirí Grande, district of Capira, became a learning scenario for students of the Bachelor's Degree in Bilingual Tourism of UMECIT, La Chorrera headquarters, who participated in an academic tour aimed at strengthening their skills through direct contact with the territory and its tourist resources.

The activity, coordinated by teacher Abdiel Sanjur, allowed participants to apply the knowledge acquired in the classroom, identifying the geographical characteristics of the region, the coffee cultivation process and the tourism potential of the protected areas, understanding the importance of sustainable tourism as a tool for economic development and the conservation of natural heritage.

The experience strengthened skills in rural, economic and tourism geography, also promoting a critical view on the responsible management of destinations and the sustainable use of natural resources.

One of the highlights of the day was the participation of Pedro Medina, a final-year student of the Bachelor's Degree in Bilingual Tourism and an entrepreneur, who served as the tour guide. During the tour, he presented his research project on the Bajura Coffee Route and shared his experience in designing tourist routes focused on coffee and other attractions in the area, demonstrating how university education can become a driving force for entrepreneurship and the development of rural communities.

With this initiative, UMECIT strengthens the integration of teaching, research and university extension, promoting learning experiences that connect students with the reality of the territory and contribute to the training of professionals committed to sustainable tourism and local development.
