With the purpose of promoting critical thinking and strengthening the academic training of future legal professionals, UMECIT, La Chorrera campus, developed the Academic Forum "Legality without Legitimacy: Philosophy of Law in the face of Money Laundering and Tax Fraud of Organized Crime", aimed at students of the Bachelor of Law and Political Science who are already practicing at the Legal Clinic.
The activity was organized by Professor Edgar Ortega, with the support of the Coordination of the headquarters and the University Extension Department of La Chorrera, consolidating a space for analysis on some of the main challenges facing the Rule of Law today.
The forum brought together leading specialists, including three judges from the Judicial Branch and a customs expert, who shared their knowledge and experiences on the impact of money laundering, tax fraud and organized crime on justice systems and institutions.
Through keynote lectures and a panel discussion, participants reflected on the relationship between legality, legitimacy, and ethical responsibility in the practice of law, strengthening their understanding of contemporary legal challenges and the importance of promoting a culture of transparency and justice.
With these types of initiatives, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment to teaching, research, university extension and engagement with the justice sector, promoting a comprehensive education that prepares future lawyers to respond with ethics, knowledge and commitment to the challenges of society.
