As part of its commitment to the generation and dissemination of scientific knowledge, UMECIT carried out the dissemination of the institutional research project entitled "Geolocation Methodology Through Triangulation of Telephone Antennas in Panama: Optimization of Forensic Investigation and Emergency Response", developed by the research professor Mijaid Joseph Tuñón Pérez.
The activity aimed to present the research results to representatives of government institutions, security and environmental organizations, teachers, students and special guests, promoting a space for academic exchange and analysis on the potential of technological tools applied to forensic investigation and emergency response.
During the event, the main findings of the study were presented, highlighting the importance of strengthening institutional capacities for the location of mobile devices, the search for missing persons and the support of criminal investigations, through procedures based on scientific criteria, traceability of information and respect for the current legal framework.
One of the most relevant contributions of the research was the presentation of the methodological proposal for the procedure PROGEOTRI-01, This innovative initiative aims to standardize forensic geolocation processes through cell phone tower triangulation. This methodology seeks to strengthen interoperability between institutions, optimize the collection of technological evidence, and contribute to evidence-based decision-making.
The activity included the participation of representatives from the Prosecutor's Office, MiAmbiente and other actors linked to the academic and professional field, who valued the importance of promoting applied research that responds to the current needs of the country in matters of security, justice and emergency management.
Through initiatives like this, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment to scientific research, innovation, and engagement with strategic sectors of society, contributing to the development of solutions that generate a positive impact in Panama.
