Umecit – University in Panama

Profitable visit of the Rector and his team to the UMECIT headquarters throughout the country

As a valuable opportunity to get closer to the Umecista community, the Rector José Alberto Nieto Rojas, the General Vice Rector, Claudia Marcela Rueda Ossa and part of his academic and administrative team, toured the headquarters of La Chorrera, Chitré, Santiago and David of UMECIT in Panama.

Within the framework of the meeting, topics such as the Cyberhumanist model, new careers and programs were discussed, among which the importance of creating more offers in the health area was evidenced, given the need to have more professionals in this field, especially after the pandemic.

The Rector highlighted the creation of new and innovative programs, explained the importance of technological skills, encouraged teachers to continue their training model and participate in research projects. He praised the recent recognition of two UMECIT journals, Cathedra and Oratores, in the Sustainability Category, first year of re-evaluation, of the 2.0 catalog of the Latindex Network, within the framework of the IV catwalk of scientific publications.

Likewise, as an obligatory topic of special interest, the reaccreditation process carried out by UMECIT was discussed, in this year 2022. The different interest groups were informed of the importance of the process and why it is important that all of us “walk together towards reaccreditation”, as mentioned in our slogan.

"It will never be the same to belong to or be a graduate of an accredited university than a non-accredited one", explained our Rector.
Therefore, everyone committed to working together in the process and looking forward to the visit of academic peers, to demonstrate our continuous growth and the quality of the processes.

In the opportune, profitable and emotional meetings, which were carried out separately with students, teachers and collaborators, there was also enough space to listen to each of the attendees and resolve their concerns.

Nieto Rojas also urged publicizing and using the services that the institution makes available to the community, such as the virtual library, which has very large databases, including Scopus, where bibliographic data of abstracts are collected. and quotes from articles from the most important scientific journals in the world. There is also the Dexway English platform, where you can study at any time, as well as the Click platform, which has more than 1000 permanent continuing education courses.
