UMECIT and the Fanlyc 2023 Relay for Life Run: Running Together for a Greater Cause

We invite you to be part of an inspiring initiative that makes a difference in the lives of struggling children and adolescents. Join UMECIT in the Fanlyc Relay Run for Life, where every step we take contributes to the support and hope of those facing cancer.

This event goes beyond running, cycling, skating or walking. It is about running for a purpose, for a child or adolescent who needs our support. Each team chooses a representative and each lap covered means a contribution of 5 dollars. The goal is clear: complete as many laps as possible to ensure that no child is left behind.

The key dates for this year are September 10 in Veraguas, September 17 in Chiriquí and September 30 in Panama. To guarantee that our participation has an effective impact, we are organizing route, logistics, transportation, animation, communication, hydration and registration supervisors, among other fundamental aspects.

Every step we take in this race is a step towards solidarity, hope and change. Join UMECIT and the community in this day of solidarity and commitment. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those who need our support.

This year, we are pleased to sponsor our goddaughter Nathaly Hernández, 13 years old, diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Honoring our commitment to educational inclusion, UMECIT will run under the name "UMECIT Running For Smiles, Changing Lives."

The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT- has university extension and its impact on society as the cornerstone of its mission. In line with this vision, it declares itself firmly committed to "Strengthening the presence of the University in the different sectors of society, with social criteria", with the aim of addressing social problems and playing an active role in solving the challenges of the context.

This commitment is materialized through various actions and projects of social bonding, including social practices, which allow students to carry out social work in various disciplines. Among the outstanding initiatives is the active participation of UMECIT for ten consecutive years in the Relay Race for Life, organized by the Friends of Children with Leukemia and Cancer Foundation (Fanlyc).

Fanlyc, a non-profit institution, is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to low-income children diagnosed with cancer. Its services range from medication, transportation, and psychosocial support to education, lodging for the child and his family during treatment, and healthy eating. The collaboration with Fanlyc represents a tangible example of corporate social responsibility, where UMECIT not only provides quality education, but also contributes to building a culture of participation and voluntary donations in society.

An activity that brings the community together to support more than 500 children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer, the Relay Run for Life gives us the opportunity to make a tangible difference.

Fanlyc not only provides medical support, but also psychosocial support. From room and board to counseling and emotional support, Fanlyc works tirelessly to ensure that children and adolescents with cancer receive the treatment and care they need.

UMECIT is proud of its commitment to society and is proud to be part of the Relay Race for Life. We believe in education as a driver of change and in collective action as a way to improve the lives of others. Together, we create a lasting impact in the lives of those who need it.
