Environmental Emergency in Relation to Water Resources: A Call to Action

The Academic and Extension Coordination of the La Chorrera Headquarters of the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT- is pleased to announce an essential activity for environmental awareness and sustainability. Under the title “Environmental Emergency in Relation to Water Resources”, this event will take place on Saturday, September 23 and Monday, September 25, and promises to be a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the challenges and solutions related to one of the most vital resources. for our survival: water.

The global environmental crisis has highlighted the critical importance of preserving and responsibly managing our natural resources. In particular, water resources have become a pressing concern due to increasing freshwater scarcity, watershed degradation, and the effects of climate change. The activity “Environmental Emergency in Relation to Water Resources” aims to provide a complete and educational vision of these crucial issues.

The event program will include presentations by experts in various areas:

Introduction to Hydrographic Basins: Engineer Miguel Ríos will offer a general perspective on how river basins work and their role in water management.

Caimito River Hydrographic Basin Committee: Engineer Krissel Sandoval will share information about the work and objectives of this key committee for the protection and restoration of watersheds.

El Niño Phenomenon and Possible Solutions: Engineer Carlina Mosquera will address the El Niño climate phenomenon and explore solutions to mitigate its effects.

Drought-Focused Soil Conservation Practices: Engineer Germán Jaén will present strategies to conserve the soil in times of drought, helping to maintain the availability of water.

Evaluation of Consumption and Responsible Use of Drinking Water: Engineer Luz Justiani will discuss the importance of a sustainable use of drinking water and how we can all contribute.

Rainwater Harvesting System in Corregimientos with a High Multidimensional Poverty Index: Engineer Jonathan Rodríguez will explore innovative solutions for rainwater harvesting in vulnerable areas.

Each presentation will have a maximum duration of 20 minutes, which will allow attendees to obtain a panoramic vision of the challenges and possible solutions in relation to water resources. UMECIT is committed to environmental education and the promotion of sustainability. 

This activity reflects our desire to address real problems with practical solutions, while promoting awareness and action in the community.

The environmental emergency affects us all, and it is our responsibility to take measures to protect and preserve water resources. Join us in this educational event and participate in building a more sustainable and conscious future.

The event is scheduled for two days on Saturday, September 23:

  • Daytime: from 08:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
  • Evening session: from 01:00 pm to 03:00 pm

In addition, a third day will take place on Monday:

  • Night shift: from 06:00 pm to 08:00 pm
  • Place: Auditorium of venue B, La Chorrera
