UMECIT and CONAPE sign agreement and launch Diploma in Journalism and Tourism Communication

The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT- and the National College of Journalists of Panama -CONAPE- signed the cooperation framework agreement that lays the foundations for close collaboration between both institutions. The signing of the agreement was the setting for the launch of the first Diploma in Journalism and Tourism Communication in Panama.

This strategic agreement has the main objective of promoting technical cooperation between UMECIT and CONAPE in areas of common interest, such as teaching, professional practice, extension, research and scientific production. As part of this collaboration, CONAPE undertakes to select groups to participate in training following agreed procedures, collaborate in administrative and technical teaching supervision processes, contribute to training programs and promote the exchange of information on topics of shared interest.

UMECIT, for its part, will facilitate the participation of CONAPE officials in complementary programs with academic validity. Both institutions will work on the joint organization of academic events and carry out research projects in specific areas agreed upon later.

The launch of the Diploma in Journalism and Tourism Communication marks a significant step in the training of specialized communicators in the tourism sector. This unique program combines theory and practice to provide participants with specialized skills and knowledge in promoting tourism destinations and telling compelling stories for travelers.

The president of CONAPE, Ms. Gricelda Melo, highlighted the importance of this historic initiative and underlined the need for specialization in the tourism sector in a world where information constantly flows through various media.

The rector of UMECIT, José Alberto Nieto Rojas, pointed out that this agreement and the diploma are a step towards the training of highly trained communicators, with the responsibility and ethics necessary to develop the profession. In addition, he invited the new faculty to join the project and emphasized the importance of continuous training in digital media.

This strategic alliance between UMECIT and CONAPE seeks to strengthen the ties between academia and journalism, promoting collaboration in areas of mutual interest and contributing to the development and strengthening of the journalism profession in Panama and beyond. Both institutions hope that this cooperation will encourage professional improvement, critical independence and the promotion of the science of collective communication.
