The Santiago campus of UMECIT was delighted to receive the visit of Gerald Pérez, the university's godson, in the Relay for Life Race, an initiative of the Friends of Children with Leukemia and Cancer Foundation (FANLYC) that seeks to provide support and hope to children and young people facing cancer.

The day began with a guard of honor organized by students and teachers, who welcomed Gerald and his family as a sign of the commitment that the university community maintains with this cause.

As part of the event, a gathering was held where students and teachers presented him with gifts specially prepared for him. They also enjoyed a social time with music, where Gerald could spend time with those who support this charitable initiative throughout the year.

One of the most significant moments was the screening of a message sent by renowned Panamanian folk music artist Alejandro Torres, who, upon learning that he is Gerald's favorite artist, wanted to send him words of encouragement and affection. The surprise was received with great emotion by Gerald and his family.

The celebration concluded with a piñata and various recreational activities, allowing students, teachers and Gerald to share a different afternoon, marked by the camaraderie and solidarity spirit that characterizes the university community.

With this visit, UMECIT reaffirms that its commitment to society extends beyond academic training. Participation in initiatives like the Relay for Life strengthens values such as empathy, social responsibility, and service, promoting a university that is close to the people and committed to causes that generate a positive impact on the community.
