The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT) achieved significant international recognition by ranking as the third best university in Panama and the best positioned private university in the country in the July 2026 edition of the Webometrics Ranking, one of the main international benchmarks for evaluating the visibility, impact and excellence of higher education institutions.

In this edition, UMECIT ranks 6,723 worldwide, consolidating its position behind the University of Panama and the Technological University of Panama, both public institutions with extensive experience, and leading the group of private Panamanian universities.

This result reflects the sustained work that the University has developed to strengthen its research ecosystem, the dissemination of scientific knowledge and its international projection.

Outstanding performance in scientific excellence

One of the most outstanding aspects of the ranking corresponds to the Excellence indicator, which evaluates the presence of scientific publications among the 10 most cited % in the world in their respective areas of knowledge.

In this indicator, UMECIT obtained an Excellence Rank of 2,164, positioning itself as the second university in Panama with the best performance in scientific excellence, only behind the University of Panama and above other national institutions included in the ranking.

Furthermore, the University recorded an Impact Rank of 3,185, related to the visibility and international recognition of its academic output on the web, and an Openness Rank of 7,845, which reflects its commitment to open access and the dissemination of knowledge.

A recognition of institutional commitment

The position achieved by UMECIT is the result of the joint effort of teachers, researchers, students and academic teams who, through the generation of knowledge, innovation and internationalization, permanently strengthen the presence of the University on the global stage.

This achievement reaffirms the institutional commitment to quality higher education, the promotion of scientific research, and the consolidation of an academic community that contributes to the development of Panama and the region.
