With the participation of more than 50 students, teachers and administrative staff members, UMECIT joined the symposium «"First Aid for Disability"», The event took place on September 16th at the Paraninfo of the University of Panama in Veraguas. The Santiago branch also participated in organizing this initiative of the CONADIS Veraguas Education Commission.

The commission brings together universities and government institutions to promote inclusion in the region. Their joint work allows them to share knowledge, strengthen collaboration for the benefit of the community, and promote equal opportunities for people with disabilities.

Marisela Valencia Grisales, Master's degree holder and coordinator of the Santiago branch of UMECIT, participated in the planning and was the presenter of the symposium. 

Representatives from universities, MEDUCA, IPHE, and IFARHU collaborated in the organization. From UMECIT, professors of Social Work and Physical Education linked the activity to their courses, bringing this experience closer to the students' training.

The workshop included explanations, demonstrations, and supervised exercises on the use of splints, bandages, and immobilization methods. Participants practiced initial care techniques and reflected on how to respond to an emergency, taking into account the needs of people with disabilities.

This experience strengthens UMECIT's Inclusive Education Program and contributes to the institution's risk management and emergency preparedness. A safe response requires recognizing the diverse needs of the people who make up the university community and preparing to address them.

Participation is also consistent with the ISO 21001 approach, which promotes education that is responsive to students' needs, inclusive, and focused on continuous improvement. For UMECIT, this commitment is built from the classroom and through collaborative work with institutions and communities in Veraguas.
