UMECIT sweeps and wins the provincial championships in the men's and women's flag football categories
The UMECIT lions were crowned champions in the men's and women's categories of the provincial Flag Football at the Panama City Bowl on November 27.
The women started the first day of the tournament by beating the Linces de Panamá Centro team and later the Black Phantom team from Coclé. On the second day of the provincial they won the victory by beating the Monster team from Chiriquí and ended the day by beating the Ravens team from Colón.
In the semifinal of the tournament, the lionesses achieved victory led by student Orlanda Castro in a very fierce match against the Linces team. In the grand final, UMECIT faced the Boomers team, achieving victory in a cardiac match that was defined by a point where the university students gave a class in team play.
The men's team, for its part, began the provincial championship by beating the Black Panthers of Coclé and the Hawks of Panama Centro on the first day. On their second day of competition they achieved victory against the West Park teams of Panama Oeste and the Florida State University Seminoles.
In the semifinal of the tournament, the Lions faced the Florida State University team in the university derby, where they obtained a comprehensive 26-0 victory. In the final of the competition UMECIT faced the Linces team, winning by 6 points.
Thus, the men's and women's teams of UMECIT became champions in a competitive competition where they remained undefeated in all their matches. It is worth mentioning that in addition to the championships, the Lions also achieved individual distinctions such as: Best Female Quarterback (Orlanda Castro), Best Female Defensive Back (Tracey Roberts), Best Female Blitzer (Briana Tejada), Best Female Wide Receiver (Clarisse Castillo), Best Male Quarterback (Mario Moreno), Best Male Defensive Back (José Mexil), Best Male Blitzer (Héctor Quintero), Best Male Wide Receiver (Jesús Guerrero).
In this way, UMECIT contributes to the comprehensive training of its students through sports, instilling in them values such as respect, responsibility, solidarity and tolerance.
