As part of its commitment to promoting folkloric expressions and strengthening cultural identity, UMECIT Chitré Campus actively participated in the activities organized in honor of Saint John the Baptist, patron saint of the city of Chitré.
The University joined the traditional Cart Parade, one of the most representative activities of these festivities, reaffirming its support for the preservation of the customs and traditions that are part of the cultural heritage of the region.
The institutional delegation was headed by Miss UMECIT Sanjuanera 2026, Lyan Paulette Martínez Durán, who proudly represented the university community. She was accompanied by students, faculty, administrative staff, and distinguished guests who symbolize the university's ties with various sectors of society.
Among the flag bearers who participated alongside the institution were Mrs. Marquela Nieto, representative of the Down Syndrome Children's Foundation of Herrera; the Honorable Representative Carlos Rodríguez, of the San Juan Bautista Community Board; Maura Mitre, student of the Bachelor's Degree in Law and Political Science; Maylin Bernal, teacher of the Faculty of Law; and Ms. Janis Briseño, director of Student Welfare at UMECIT.
Participation in these celebrations strengthened the bonds between the university and the community, promoting values of identity, respect for traditions, and civic engagement. It also provided members of the institution with the opportunity to engage in cultural activities that enrich their holistic development and reinforce their sense of belonging.
For UMECIT, participating in these activities represents much more than accompanying a religious tradition; it constitutes an opportunity to honor our roots, promote coexistence, and reaffirm our commitment to the cultural development of the region.
