Comprehensive mental health: experts share knowledge and experiences at the first Psychology symposium

The importance of prevention, psychological intervention, and the promotion of well-being was the central theme of the First Mental Health Symposium, held at the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT), under the motto “Comprehensive Mental Health: Psychological perspectives for prevention, intervention and promotion of well-being”.

The event brought together specialists, students, teachers and members of the university community in an academic exchange space that allowed them to analyze the current challenges of mental health and reflect on the role of Psychology in individual and collective well-being.

During the meeting, four specialists addressed different dimensions of mental health, contributing knowledge and experiences from their respective professional fields.

Dr. Tania Harris de Thomas spoke about promoting and preventing mental health problems, emphasizing the importance of developing timely actions that foster psychological well-being. Meanwhile, Ramiro Murillo, MA, delved into managing emotions, stress, and coping strategies for everyday life situations.

Kathleen Jiménez, a licensed professional, addressed the relationship between mental health and life contexts, highlighting the influence of the environment on people's well-being, while Luis Ávila, a licensed professional, shared perspectives on psychological intervention and the new challenges this discipline faces in light of society's needs.

Innovation and technology at the service of learning

As part of the program, attendees toured different informative and demonstrative stands, where they learned about technological tools, educational resources and initiatives related to health, well-being and the development of professional skills.

Among the proposals presented, EON-XR stood out, an extended reality platform that allows the development of immersive and interactive learning experiences, showing new possibilities for integrating technology into academic training processes.

These spaces also facilitated interaction between participants and the exchange of experiences, broadening the perspective on the importance of addressing mental health from different disciplines.

The First Mental Health Symposium provided an opportunity to enrich the training of future General Psychology professionals, promoting a broader understanding of the factors that influence people's emotional and psychological well-being.

With this type of meeting, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment to an education that integrates scientific knowledge, innovation, ethics and human sensitivity, preparing professionals capable of contributing to the prevention, care and promotion of mental health in society.
