Umecit – University in Panama

We recognize and celebrate Radio Provincias' 80-year history

The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT-, through its Rectorate, faculty, administrative staff and student community, especially from the Chitré Campus, extends its most sincere congratulations to Radio Provincias for commemorating, this October 6, 2026, 80 years of uninterrupted operation.

For eight decades, Radio Provincias has established itself as a leading voice in Panamanian media, particularly in the communities of the central provinces. Its history is intertwined with news, education, folklore, and wholesome entertainment for Panamanian families, maintaining a constant connection with its audience.

UMECIT especially recognizes the trajectory of its owners, Professor Gaspar Alonso Reyes Ulloa and his wife, the jurist Olga Nelly Tapia, who have given continuity to this communication project for decades.

As an educational institution committed to the social and cultural development of the country, UMECIT values the contribution of local media that help preserve national identity, promote traditions, and strengthen communication close to the communities.

“Eighty years on the air represent a trajectory of resilience, adaptation and, above all, a deep respect for the audience.”.
