Last Sunday, September 27, 2026, students of the Bachelor's Degree in General Psychology of UMECIT, belonging to the subject Developmental Psychology II, participated in an academic visit to the "Su Segunda Familia" Children's Home, located in Brisas del Golf.
The activity aimed to strengthen the learning acquired in the classroom through direct contact with a real context, allowing students to relate the theories and concepts addressed during the subject with the experiences and characteristics of the stages of adulthood and old age.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical experience, as well as identify and analyze the physical, cognitive, emotional and social changes associated with the aging process.
Likewise, the meeting allowed for an understanding, from a comprehensive perspective of human development, of the transformations that occur during the transition from adulthood to old age, strengthening the observation, analysis and reflection skills of future Psychology professionals.
One of the key aspects of this experience was recognizing the importance of companionship, empathy, respect, and dignity in the care and relationships with older adults. In this way, students were able to connect academic content with a social reality that is part of the various fields of practice within Psychology.
Beyond the academic content, the visit represented a space to reflect on the importance of promoting a comprehensive vision of aging, recognizing the abilities, needs, experiences and contributions of older adults.
These types of experiences allow us to understand that Psychology is not limited to the study of concepts and theories, but also requires observing, listening to, understanding and accompanying human beings in the different stages of their lives.
At the Psychology Department of UMECIT, we continue to promote academic training connected to reality, in which theory is transformed into experience and learning is built from a human, ethical perspective committed to society.
