Recently, the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT- had the privilege of receiving Alison Martínez, our goddaughter of this year within the framework of Relay for Life, an initiative of the Friends of Children with Leukemia and Cancer Foundation (FANLYC).
Alison arrived at our University accompanied by her mother and brother, and was received with enthusiasm, affection and sensitivity by students, teachers and administrative staff, who shared with her a day full of smiles, hugs and special moments that will remain in the heart of our university community.
Relay for Life is an initiative that seeks to raise awareness and unite society in support of children with cancer and their families, promoting solidarity and helping them to continue their treatments and face this process with greater opportunities and support.
For UMECIT, being part of this initiative represents much more than participating in an activity: it means accompanying, listening and walking alongside Alison and her family, reminding them that they are not alone.
Their visit allowed us to reaffirm a lesson that transcends the classroom: behind every diagnosis there is a story, a family, dreams and a girl who deserves to keep smiling, playing, learning and building hope.
Alison's presence at our University reminded us that solidarity transforms into hope when we choose to stand by others. Every kind gesture, every shared smile, and every act of support has the power to make a difference.
As part of this commitment, we invite our entire university community to join the FANLYC cause through donations. UMECIT already has a designated donation fee. When making a payment at the cashier, students should indicate that the payment reference is “FANLYC Relay Race for Life.” Those who wish to contribute can also make donations through Yappy UMECIT, available in the Yappy directory. Every donation represents an opportunity to support the children and families facing this reality.
As a university community, we embrace Alison and her family and reaffirm our commitment to building a more humane, empathetic, and supportive society.
Alison, thank you for visiting us and allowing us to share a little piece of your story with you. At UMECIT, you have a community that supports you, embraces you, and believes in you throughout your life.
