UMECIT concludes its annual environmental awareness cycle with a call to turn good habits into permanent actions.
With the purpose of continuing to strengthen a culture of care and environmental responsibility within the university community, the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT- held the day “Small Actions, Big Changes: Awareness on Climate Change and Environmental Care”, an initiative that invites to recognize the impact that our daily decisions have on the construction of a sustainable future.
This activity represents the closing of a cycle of awareness-raising actions developed during the year, aimed at promoting responsible practices and greater awareness of the environmental challenges facing our society.
During this process, it was emphasized that caring for the environment doesn't depend solely on large-scale initiatives. Simple actions such as reducing waste, reusing materials, properly separating waste, saving water and energy, and keeping our spaces clean can generate significant changes when they become habits and are adopted collectively.
The Office of Outreach and Community Engagement at UMECIT reaffirms that university responsibility extends beyond the classroom. Education also involves raising awareness, strengthening values, and connecting the university community with the needs and challenges of its surroundings.
The event, developed in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, reinforced the institutional commitment to sustainable development and to professional training that also incorporates social and environmental responsibility.
More than the end of an activity, this meeting represents the beginning of new actions. The true impact of an awareness day is reflected in what each person decides to put into practice afterward.
Therefore, the call is to transform reflection into action: what small action can we change from today to contribute to the care of our environment?
When a person changes a habit, they create change. When a community makes a commitment, it creates transformation. And when a university educates, raises awareness, and takes action, it becomes an agent of social transformation.
At UMECIT, we reaffirm our commitment to an education that transforms, a connection that builds, and responsible actions that contribute to the environment and society we want for tomorrow.
Because small actions, when they become a collective commitment, can produce big changes.
