“EcoAceite” program to promote recycling and environmental awareness

As part of its commitment to sustainability and environmental education, UMECIT La Chorrera campus successfully developed the “EcoAceite” program, an initiative organized from the subject of Ecological and Environmental Law of the Bachelor of Law and Political Science, under the coordination of Prof. María Alverola.

The activity aimed to strengthen ecological awareness within the university community, promoting responsible practices related to recycling and the protection of natural resources. Furthermore, the program was integrated into the institutional volunteer program "Hands that Transform," reaffirming the university's social and environmental commitment.

Thanks to the active participation of students, teachers and the Extension Coordination of the campus, educational days and collection points for used cooking oil were carried out, promoting concrete actions to reduce environmental pollution and the negative impact on water resources.

The collected oil will be delivered to the BIOCAR organization, a foundation in charge of reusing this waste for the production of biofuel (biodiesel), thus contributing to the circular economy and sustainable development.

“EcoAceite” is an initiative that strengthens students' holistic development, encouraging civic participation, environmental responsibility, and a commitment to caring for the planet. Each liter of recycled oil symbolizes a concrete action in favor of the environment and an opportunity to build more conscious and sustainable communities.

With projects like this, UMECIT continues to promote learning and participation spaces that generate a positive impact on society and contribute to environmental transformation through education.
