The academic visit undertaken by students to the El Diamante Intelligent Ecological Management Center, located in the township of Playa Leona, district of La Chorrera, province of Panama Oeste, was a significant experience that reinforced the knowledge acquired during their university studies. This activity allowed participants to learn firsthand about the processes related to the integrated management of solid waste and to observe the different areas that make up this center.
During the tour, the students had the opportunity to visit facilities such as the landfill, the leachate treatment plant, the waste weighing area, and the recycling center, among others. Direct observation of these processes allowed them to connect the theoretical content developed in the classroom with situations and procedures carried out in a real-world setting, fostering a more practical, dynamic, and meaningful learning experience.
Furthermore, the experience allowed students to understand the importance of implementing sustainable technologies and strategies for proper waste management. The tour facilitated reflection on the impacts that inadequate waste management can have on the environment and public health, as well as on the need to promote practices focused on the responsible use, treatment, and disposal of waste.
The activity also contributed to the development of skills related to observation, analysis, and research.
