Awareness day and human chain to promote the eradication of child labor

As part of their commitment to promoting human rights and training socially responsible professionals, students of the Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and Human Development from the 2024 and 2025 cohorts of UMECIT, La Chorrera Campus, developed an awareness day and a human chain in commemoration of World Day against Child Labor.

The activity, organized with the support of the faculty and the Extension Coordination of the campus, began with an awareness day at UMECIT's Campus A, where students and teachers reflected on the importance of protecting children's rights and preventing child labor.

During the meeting, the physical, emotional, educational and social consequences that this problem generates in the integral development of children and adolescents were addressed, highlighting the importance of strengthening civic awareness and collective commitment to guarantee safe environments and development opportunities for children.

Later, the participants moved to the main access road to La Chorrera, where they formed a human chain with balloons, banners, and messages alluding to the eradication of child labor. The initiative sought to raise awareness among drivers, pedestrians, and the community at large about the need to ensure that all children can fully enjoy their childhood, access a quality education, and grow up free from any form of labor exploitation.

With this university outreach activity, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment to the comprehensive education of its students and to the development of initiatives that contribute to building a more just, equitable, and inclusive society. It also strengthens the role of future social work professionals as agents of change committed to defending human rights, social justice, and protecting children.
