Installation of the formal act of entry into the institutional reaccreditation process
With the presence of the main rectors of both official and private universities in the country, the formal act of entering the institutional reaccreditation process was held this Monday, August 22, in the auditorium of the Universidad Latina.
In this way, the National Council for University Evaluation and Accreditation of Panama -CONEAUPA- opens the call for this important stage of accountability, whose objective is to promote the culture of evaluation that ensures the quality of university higher education.
The event, which was carried out within the framework and compliance with Law 52 of June 26, 2015, seeks to direct the different universities to a team process: collaborating with actions, technical advice, training and support, which culminate in the improvement of education in the country.
The National System of Evaluation and Accreditation for the Improvement of the Quality of Higher University Education of Panama, is an organism with academic autonomy, legal status and its own assets subject to the orientation and general policy of the Executive Branch, attached to the Ministry of Education.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, pointed out the importance of having a regulatory framework that allows universities to organize themselves and comply with accreditation and reaccreditation processes to advance in the face of the new academic challenges facing society.
The accreditation and reaccreditation processes attest to compliance with the standards required in each area that will be evaluated, such as: institutional project, academic project, university community, and infrastructure conditions.
The main function of these processes is to promote a culture of evaluation for continuous improvement.
The Minister stressed that universities face the enormous responsibility of ensuring the quality of university work in their role of creating and disseminating knowledge.
Gorday de Villalobos said that 2023 will be the "Year of Accreditation" with the aim of strengthening, among other things, the regulatory framework that allows universities to advance and meet current requirements with quality, especially the use and generation of technologies and the protection of the environment from a human dimension.
