The research team responsible for the study “Impacts of the socio-environmental activities of the communities of El Retén and El Agallito on the conservation of the migratory bird route – Herrera Province” officially began the second phase of fieldwork in the community of Playa El Agallito.

The study seeks to understand how the social, economic and environmental dynamics of the communities of El Retén and El Agallito are related to the conservation of this important coastal habitat, considered a strategic point within the migratory route of numerous shorebirds that travel annually across the American continent.

As part of this new phase, during the next few days the duly identified research team will be visiting the community of Playa El Agallito to apply surveys, conduct interviews with key actors and develop environmental diagnoses in the coastal area.

The data obtained will strengthen knowledge about the social and environmental conditions of the area and will contribute to the design of conservation strategies based on scientific evidence and the participation of the communities.

The project also seeks to promote a sustainable coexistence between human activities and the protection of biodiversity, recognizing the fundamental role of local communities in the conservation of these ecosystems.
