With a firm commitment to deconstructing inequalities and highlighting the role of women in social development, the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT), Chitré Campus, participated as a conference institution in the event organized by the Attorney General's Office of the Herrera Administration, with the keynote address "Mechanisms for the empowerment of women: a look at the gender perspective.".

The dissertation was given by Mgter. Anielka de Samaniego, who presented a critical and analytical approach to gender inequalities and the social structures that have historically perpetuated the gaps between men and women.

During her speech, it was emphasized that the gender perspective constitutes a fundamental scientific and human tool to understand how the roles attributed to men and women respond to cultural constructions that can be questioned and transformed.

The day provided an opportunity to reflect on challenges that continue to impact women's development and opportunities, including the gender pay gap, female participation in senior management and political leadership positions, as well as unconscious biases that can limit women's and girls' access to different opportunities.

The invisible burden of unpaid domestic work was also addressed as one of the main barriers affecting women's professional advancement. In this context, the role of gender-sensitive education was highlighted as a fundamental tool for preventing discrimination and violence against women.

With this participation, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality, promoting an education based on the principles of justice, respect and equity.

From its academic spaces, the University continues to promote initiatives that contribute to forming new generations capable of questioning inequalities, promoting relationships based on respect and building educational and social environments free of discrimination and sexism.
