In 2023, the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT - Chitré Headquarters received an outstanding invitation from the UN International Organization for Migration.
The University actively participated in a crucial study to evaluate the situation of migrants in the provinces of Herrera, Los Santos and Coclé. The Mgtra. Anielka U. de Samaniego, Research and Extension Coordinator, played a fundamental role in this consultation, which aimed to establish a baseline for planning social change strategies.
The results of this study were presented and validated in a significant work meeting held on March 7, 2024. Various institutions, including universities, the government sector and civil society, had the opportunity to learn about the results of the methodology. Communication for Development (C4D). At this meeting, the IOM-UN expressed its deep gratitude for the commitment of UMECIT in the study and in the exchange and learning process. They recognized that this collaboration is essential to ensure that the results of the initiatives are not only shared, but also understood and valued in their true dimension. As a result of this successful collaboration, the IOM-UN extended an invitation to UMECIT to establish the foundations for future joint initiatives within the scope of the “Think About It Twice” strategy. This achievement highlights UMECIT's commitment to social change and its contribution to the well-being of communities in the region.
