Students from the Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Management Administration at UMECIT, La Chorrera campus, participated in the academic tour "Global Big Day Panama: Biodiversity and Sustainable Development in Action", developed in the Altos de Campana National Park, as part of an educational experience focused on environmental conservation and scientific research.
The activity, led by teacher Prof. Gisselle Rodríguez, allowed students to strengthen environmental skills through bird watching, scientific recording and the use of specialized technological tools such as eBird, actively integrating themselves into the international Global Big Day Panama event.
During the tour, participants had the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a real natural environment, understanding the importance of biodiversity, the conservation of protected areas and their direct relationship with sustainable development.
The experience represented a significant learning space that promoted research, critical thinking and environmental awareness, contributing to the strengthening of the academic and human training of future professionals in the environmental field.
Furthermore, this practice demonstrated the effective integration of the substantive functions of teaching, research, extension and university management, reaffirming UMECIT's institutional commitment to the training of professionals capable of leading sustainable and environmentally responsible actions.
The teacher's guidance and support were fundamental to the success of the activity, guiding the students in a dynamic learning process focused on the conservation and protection of biodiversity.
