With the purpose of strengthening the academic training of future legal professionals, students of the subject Criminal Procedural Law I, under the guidance of the teacher Aracely Achille, the Academic Conference on Criminal Investigation and Due Process in Panama: Balance between Justice and Guarantees.
The activity aimed to delve deeper into the study of the constitutional guarantees that must be observed during the investigation and trial of criminal acts, complementing academic training through the exchange of knowledge with specialists in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure.
During the day, fundamental topics for professional practice were addressed, including criminal investigation in the Accusatory Criminal System, due process, the rights of the accused and the victim, the function of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the role of the judge of guarantees and the importance of maintaining the balance between the administration of justice and the protection of human rights.
The following individuals participated as guest speakers: Jorge Luis Quelal, criminal lawyer, criminologist and university professor at UMECIT, La Chorrera campus, and the licensed Ceferino Antonio Velásquez Ríos, Deputy Prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor's Office of Panama West and specialist in Criminalistics, Forensic Sciences and Higher Education, who shared their knowledge and professional experiences, enriching the learning of the attendees.
The active participation of the students, through questions, case analysis and reflections on the topics presented, fostered an academic dialogue that strengthened their legal, argumentative and analytical skills.
