Denisse Marie Juárez, a criminalistics professional with a passion for dance

Criminalistics is the science that is responsible for the study of elements, indications and evidence that allow deciphering or determining what happened at the scene of a crime and where broken glass, fibers, hair, instruments, weapons, fingerprints and blood that have been found and become part of an investigation.

The basic hypothesis of criminalistics is that "the criminal, however intelligent he may be, always leaves something in the place that will somehow reveal his presence there."

This discipline is very far from the spectacularity and drama of well-known television series such as CSI and others that have raised some research paths in the popular imagination that do not always conform to reality.

Denisse Marie Juárez decided 6 years ago that the path she wanted to follow was unconventional. Studying criminalistics was what he longed for and after reviewing different options he saw that the one that most caught his attention was the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT-.

«It is a very interesting career, since I read the study plan it caught my attention. I completed my four years, did my professional practice and now I'm just waiting for my bachelor's degree. It is very interesting that the professors who teach us practice in this field and that is why it is fascinating to listen to them. They know so much about the subject because they have been in the area of research and analysis, which is enriching”, says Denisse in the UMECIT Informa newscast that is broadcast on Wednesdays and Fridays, on our YouTube Channel.

UMECIT offers the Bachelor of Criminalistics and Science forensics whose duration is 13 quarters, 4 years and 4 months exactly. The idea of this career arose in response to the need of the Institute of Legal Medicine to have professionals in this area.

Denisse Marie is an example of students who have taken advantage of this innovative academic offer. He tells us that, through his professional practice, he was able to realize a very particular situation with the program used in the country for facial recognition, especially to make spoken portraits that allow a face to be "assembled" based on certain descriptions of features. physical.

«I realized that the elements that I analyzed, with the help of a computerized program, were based on elements or traits of Anglo-Saxon or North American people, but not from our Latin American region. I wondered what would happen if we generated a type of program that was more like us. What if I created a piece of software with the help of different programmers so that we could get closer to our characteristics? Well, that's how we did it and now I only hope to be able to put it into practice one day”, says Denisse proudly.

Denisse Marie Juárez also studied fine arts and today works in the world of dance. She continues to pursue her dreams and once she receives her diploma, she is sure that she will start a path full of challenges and opportunities in the field that she always aspired to.
