With the purpose of strengthening interdisciplinary training and bringing theoretical knowledge closer to its practical application, students from the Faculty of Law and Forensic Sciences of the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT-, Panama headquarters, organized the extension and social linking activity called "Linking aspects of Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences with the General Theory of Crime".
The initiative was developed within the framework of the subject General Criminal Law I, under the guidance of Professor Ogami R. Rivera Cano, and included the participation of teachers Khumar Villalobos and Irvin Castro, who contributed their knowledge and experience to the analysis of the topics covered.
During the session, the relationship between the general theory of crime and the technical and scientific tools used in criminal investigations was explored in depth. This exchange allowed for an understanding of how Criminal Law, Criminalistics, and Forensic Sciences complement each other in analyzing criminal behavior, interpreting evidence, and contributing to clarifying the facts.
The activity also provided students with the opportunity to develop analytical skills, legal argumentation and critical thinking, while strengthening their research skills through consulting scientific and legal sources and discussing issues related to crime.
This experience integrated three essential functions of university education: teaching, through the application of knowledge acquired in the classroom; outreach and social engagement, through academic exchange; and research, by encouraging the analysis of problems and the construction of well-founded arguments.
UMECIT recognizes the initiative, commitment, and organizational effort of the students who made this day possible, demonstrating that the training of future legal and forensic professionals is strengthened through experiences that connect theory, research, and professional reality.
