Collaboration of UMECIT and Government Entities Promotes Social Projects
In a joint effort to promote labor and community development, Minister Doris Zapata Acevedo, of the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development, and Mr. Edgardo Reyes, Deputy Director of the Panamanian Autonomous Cooperative Institute IPACOOP, led initiatives in several communities of North Panama.
In this project, UMECIT has played a fundamental role by collaborating in socioeconomic and socioeducational evaluations, with the valuable contribution of students from the Social Work and Human Development major. In addition, from the Entrepreneurship Coordination, seminars on Entrepreneurship and Business Ideas have been offered, thus strengthening the business fabric of the benefited communities.
This joint effort has had a significant impact at the national level, benefiting more than 2,500 people, including cooperative members, family members and members of the community in general. More than 500 women and men have been placed in the labor market as associates of small businesses, improving their quality of life and generating sustainable economic opportunities.
In this last phase, 37 women and 6 men join as new cooperative members, thus consolidating the commitment to inclusive and sustainable development. UMECIT's active participation in community projects not only transforms lives, but also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, addressing crucial issues such as poverty reduction, gender equality, decent employment and climate action. .
