With the aim of promoting more humane, empathetic, and responsible care for patients, students of the Bachelor of Law and Political Science program, who are completing their professional internship at the UMECIT Legal Clinic in La Chorrera, developed a series of training sessions for the administrative and healthcare staff of the Nicolás A. Solano Hospital, under the motto “Leading with responsibility, sensitivity and empathy towards patients”.
During the sessions, the students addressed topics related to user care, humane treatment, professional responsibility, empathy in health services and respect for human rights, supporting their presentations with applicable legal regulations and principles aimed at the protection and dignity of people.
The event also featured the participation of judges from the Panama West Judicial Branch as guest speakers., Xavier Flores and Manuel Sánchez, as well as the community mediator Jessica Vergara, Esq., who shared knowledge about social coexistence, mediation and the importance of good treatment within health institutions.
More than 150 people participated during three days of training, Strengthening skills related to human sensitivity, institutional responsibility, and comprehensive citizen care.
The initiative was led by Mgtr. Kerubis Harris, head of the Legal Clinic, in coordination with the academic areas and the Extension Coordination of the headquarters, strengthening the link between university training and the real needs of the community.
