The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT-, through its headquarters in Santiago, reaffirms its commitment to community development by implementing a significant social project in the community of Aguas Limpias, located in the Carlos Santana district, Veraguas.
This project represents a collaborative effort based on the institutional pillars of formative research, extension and teaching. Its origin dates back to the UMECIT Research Days, where students of the Social Work program conducted a community diagnosis to identify the main needs of the community. The findings were translated into concrete actions designed to address critical aspects of the social reality of Aguas Limpias.
Education in action: direct work with children and adolescents
Led by Professor Yazmin Díaz, the Social Work students put their knowledge into practice by developing educational activities with the children of the community. The intervention was divided into two groups:
In addition to educational activities, the day included a Christmas treat, where children enjoyed songs, gifts and moments of joy in a festive atmosphere.
A collective effort with social impact
The success of this initiative was made possible thanks to the generous donations and joint efforts of the educational community at the Santiago campus, demonstrating the transformative power of uniting theory and practice to generate a positive impact on society.
This project not only demonstrates UMECIT's commitment to its environment, but also highlights the potential of its students as agents of change in building a more inclusive and supportive future.
