UMECIT Inaugurates the Manufacturing Laboratory -FabLab- with the Support of SENACYT

Thanks to the funding provided by the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation -SENACYT-, within the framework of the Public Call for Innovation Projects 2023, UMECIT inaugurated its Fabrication Laboratory (Fab Lab) at the Venetto B headquarters. This achievement is due to the project presented by Dr. Giovanni Chávez, professor and researcher at our University.

The FabLab It will not only be an academic space, but also a meeting point where ideas can be transformed into realities, facilitating the creation of short-term business plans. This laboratory is designed for students and teachers to turn their concepts into tangible products, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

The FabLab creation project at UMECIT It has a significant impact on the development of knowledge and digital manufacturing, strengthening the educational experience for both the university community and students of the International Bilingual Institute of Panama -IBI-, who will participate in this first phase. 

Likewise, the FabLab will offer its services to the general public, providing a quality scientific space for Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I), where products and solutions can be designed, created and manufactured.

The opening ceremony was presided over by the Rector of UMECIT, Dr. José Alberto Nieto, accompanied by academic authorities and teachers from various faculties. Among the special guests were: Dr. Alberto De Ycaza, Director of Business Innovation at SENACYT; Dr. Giovanni Chavez, researcher in charge of the project; Lic. Patricia Acevedo, General Director of the IBI of Panama; and the Lic. Ana Maria Pepper from the company Grafocentro, supplier of the FabLab equipment.

This new space reaffirms UMECIT's commitment to innovation, technology and educational advancement, promoting academic and business growth in the country.
