UMECIT promotes citizen participation with a successful civic day of social responsibility and electoral education
The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT- celebrates the success of its civic day held on April 20, 2024. This initiative, focused on university social responsibility, had the enthusiastic participation of students, teachers and administrative staff, highlighting the importance of suffrage as a fundamental pillar of democracy.
In collaboration with the Electoral Tribunal and as part of a civic training program, the university community was trained, promoting a deep understanding of the electoral process and the importance of exercising the vote. More than a simple drill, this day reflected UMECIT's commitment to comprehensive education and active citizenship.
At the national level, the results reveal a notable participation in all headquarters, with the following distribution of voters:
Panama: 856 voters, representing 45% of participation. Veneto, Megamall and IBI joined together at this headquarters.
La Chorrera: 486 voters, with 25% participating.
Chitré: 180 voters, equivalent to 9%.
Santiago: 201 voters, representing 11%.
David: 185 voters, with 10%.
In total, participation reached 1,908 voters, demonstrating an active commitment to the democratic process. This day exemplifies UMECIT's mission of creating a learning environment that transcends the classroom, where the exercise of citizen rights and duties is as relevant as academic training.
In order to continue promoting participation and electoral education, UMECIT is committed to leading initiatives that strengthen student voice and promote informed choice. We are convinced that an informed and active educational community is essential for the development of a solid and healthy democracy.
