Umecit – University in Panama

UMECIT committed to health and prevention

At UMECIT, we join the initiative of the Panamanian Ministry of Health to promote health and foster healthy environments. In collaboration with the Council of Rectors and the Network of Health Promoting Universities, we are committed to strengthening actions that contribute to the promotion of health in our educational institutions.

In this sense, last July 11 we held a conference on organ transplantation and its general aspects. We had the invaluable participation of Dr. Vanessa Armuelles and Dr. Kathya Ortega from Hospital Santo Tomás, who provided us with essential information on this topic. During the conference, our young people as well as administrative and teaching staff had the opportunity to register as organ donors, aware of the importance of this noble cause.

In addition, in alliance with Clínica Hospital San Fernando, we held a virtual conference on the STROKE program, aimed specifically at our Physiotherapy students. Dr. Kharla Cornejo provided us with valuable information on the alternatives available in our country for the reduction of sequelae derived from cerebrovascular diseases. This conference aimed to socialize and raise awareness about the options and treatments available to improve the quality of life of those who have suffered from this type of disease.

These activities, in which students from the Physiotherapy, Occupational Health and Safety and Psychology careers participated, both at UMECIT and Universidad del Istmo, are part of our commitment to the promotion of health and the integral wellbeing of our university community. At UMECIT, we recognize the importance of promoting awareness about organ donation and disease prevention, as well as providing relevant and updated information in the field of health.

We will continue to work hand in hand with various institutions and health professionals to further strengthen our work in health promotion in our educational institutions. We thank all participants and collaborators for their commitment and enthusiasm in these initiatives that seek to generate a positive impact in the community.
