UMECIT Chitré opens its doors to Panamanian folklore with its new Folk Dance Course

An invitation to connect with our roots, strengthen Panamanian identity, and keep traditions alive through dance.

UMECIT, Chitré Campus, invites its university community and the general public to participate in its new Folk Dance Course, an artistic and cultural space created to rescue, celebrate and preserve the traditions of our country through dance.

The course aims to promote Panamanian identity through learning the steps, rhythms, techniques, and historical elements of some of the most representative dances of our folklore.

During the sessions, participants will be able to approach traditional expressions such as the tamborito, the cumbia, the punto and other regional dances, learning not only their choreographies, but also the meaning and history that are part of our cultural heritage.

A space for everyone

The Folk Dance Course is aimed at students, teachers, graduates, administrative staff and the general public interested in learning about and enjoying Panamanian folklore.

No prior dance experience is required. Participants only need comfortable clothing and, above all, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

In addition to contributing to the strengthening of our cultural identity, the practice of dance offers benefits for physical and emotional well-being, helping to improve physical condition, release stress and strengthen values such as teamwork, discipline and coexistence.

Dancing our traditions is also preserving them.

Folklore is a living expression of our history, identity, and cultural diversity. Through this course, UMECIT seeks to create a space where new generations can learn about, appreciate, and keep alive the cultural expressions that form part of our identity as Panamanians.
