UMECIT: 20 years of educational transformation and legacy of impact in Panama, the region and beyond

Twenty years ago, a dream became a reality. A vision of education without limits, forged from the heart of Panama, began to take shape. Today, in this time of celebration, we look back with gratitude and forward with renewed vision.

Since approval by the Ministry of National Education of Panama on July 21, 2004, UMECIT has been a beacon of hope for thousands of students in Panama and the region. We have traveled a path full of achievements, becoming an educational benchmark. The opening of five locations throughout the country, the creation of six faculties, with more than 100 face-to-face, blended and virtual education programs, and the acquisition of the International Bilingual Institute (IBI) are proof of our commitment to quality education. .

At UMECIT, excellence is part of our history. We obtained the first accreditation in 2012 and the ISO 9001-2008 certification in 2014. With a global vision, we began international opening and participated in the Accreditation System of Central America and Panama (SIACAP), consolidating ourselves as regional leaders in quality education. In 2022, we were reaccredited with the highest rating for six consecutive years.

Our commitment goes beyond academics. In February 2021, we founded the UMECIT FC Club, which represents the values of teamwork, dedication and excellence, becoming a symbol of institutional pride. In 2022, we reached a historic moment by promoting to the first division of the LFP, demonstrating that with passion, effort and community spirit, we can overcome any challenge.

At UMECIT we have expanded our academic offerings to encompass a variety of professional fields, from sciences and technology to humanities and social sciences. Our educational flexibility, with in-person and virtual modalities, allows students to access quality education from anywhere, facilitating an effective balance between study, work and personal life.

We have played a crucial role in the professional development of our graduates, providing them with tools and skills to excel in their respective fields. Additionally, we have established strong partnerships with the industry, facilitating internships, internships and employment opportunities. Our social commitment is manifested through programs and projects that address the needs of the community.

Strategic investment in technological infrastructure has been a priority for us, promoting innovation in our educational work. With the introduction of UMEBOT, the first humanoid robot in classrooms, the implementation of augmented reality through Eon Reality, the integration of human simulators for health practices, state-of-the-art laboratories and online learning platforms, we are taking education at a futuristic and revolutionary level, preparing students for an increasingly digital world.

The pandemic emerged as an unprecedented challenge, but paradoxically, it strengthened our institution in unexpected ways. Since the foundation, we have embraced the virtual modality as a fundamental pillar of our educational mission. This strategic choice proved to be an invaluable strength during difficult times, as we already had the experience and infrastructure necessary to offer quality virtual classes.

With our eyes set on the future, our vision is clear: lead educational innovation and train students for the challenges of the 21st century. We expand borders with virtual programs in Colombia, Ecuador and the United States, taking quality education to new horizons and committed to the Sustainable Development Goals, we build a better future for the next generations.
