Within the framework of UMECIT's 20 years, our House of Studies held a series of commemorative events to celebrate this important milestone. The events began with an emotional holy mass, attended by collaborators from various corners of the country and the region, to thank God for two decades of achievements, challenges, achievements and recognitions.
After the mass, a heartfelt ceremony was held in the auditorium of the Founders Headquarters, where recognitions were given to all the collaborators present. Each attendee received a pin from the rector José Alberto Nieto Rojas and the Vice-Rector General, Claudia Marcela Rueda Ossa, in recognition of their work. For collaborators at the interior headquarters, the rector himself will give them their pin in August.
During the ceremony, the “Blue Emblem” and “Blue Monarch Butterfly” distinctions were awarded, symbolizing virtues such as perseverance, prosperity, constant transformation, trust, faith, truth and the past, present and future essence of people. The color blue represents one of the colors of our flag and institutional DNA. Likewise, the distinction of the "Golden Shield" was awarded, the highest decoration awarded by our House of Studies to recognize different merits.
In his speech, rector José Alberto Nieto Rojas expressed his gratitude to his colleague, Dr. Claudia Marcela Rueda Ossa, highlighting her invaluable contribution during these 20 years of growth. He expressed his pride in UMECIT, one of the most solid educational institutions that has transcended borders. He thanked all the collaborators for their effort and dedication in the construction and development of the University.
The rector stressed the importance of unity, innovation and creativity to maintain success over time. «We are an inclusive University, regardless of nationality or freedom of religion. Here we are united by one objective: to educate and train people, and that is where we must go,” he stated.
Likewise, he highlighted: "We are a melting pot of races at the service of the country's formation", underlining the important inclusion of various nationalities that enrich the classrooms and hallways of our House of Studies.
The celebration continued with the UMECIT birthday song in the different buildings and headquarters, including Fundadores, Veneto, Masters, IBI, Megamall and La Chorrera. Soon, the headquarters of Santiago, Chitré and David will also join this festivity.
UMECIT is proud to be a diverse family, a melting pot serving the formation of the country, and is committed to continuing to inspire and transform lives for years to come.
