As part of its commitment to scientific research and the generation of knowledge with social impact, the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT-, La Chorrera campus, on July 30, 2026, released the results of the institutional research project entitled "Study on the variables that influence gender violence according to the perception of students and teachers of UMECIT, La Chorrera campus.".

The research was developed by the research professors Cornelia Rodríguez, Amelia Sarco and Jenie González, with the purpose of identifying the factors that influence gender violence from the perception of the university community and generating information that contributes to the design of prevention and awareness strategies.

The study involved 135 students and faculty members from the General Psychology and Social Work programs, highlighting the influence of family and sociocultural factors on this issue. Among the main findings, 76.3% of participants indicated that stereotypes transmitted by the family foster permissive attitudes toward violence, while 82.2% considered that a lack of training in gender perspective exacerbates this phenomenon.

The activity brought together local authorities from the province of Panama West, representatives from the municipalities of Arraiján and La Chorrera, public institutions, teachers, students and special guests, who participated in a space for dialogue and exchange aimed at strengthening awareness, prevention and promotion of care and reporting routes.

With the dissemination of these results, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment to research as a tool to understand social challenges and provide solutions that contribute to building more informed, equitable and violence-free communities, strengthening its mission to generate knowledge in service of human and social development.
